Puppy and Kitten Pet Care for a Happy and Healthy Life

Haile Plantation Animal Clinic wants to be a part of your young pet’s life. We provide high-quality, individualized medical care from their puppy and kitten stages through their senior years.

To give your new puppy or kitten the best possible start, we suggest that you schedule an appointment as soon as he or she becomes a member of your family. At the first visit, we will develop a personalized health care plan for this important life stage. Our experienced staff will help your pet feel comfortable as we conduct a full physical examination, which typically includes a weight check and observation of the coat, ears, eyes, heart, lungs, and teeth.

During that first exam, we will discuss any special risk factors and health concerns specific to your pet’s breed or environment. We will assess the pet’s need for parasite control, as well as more serious issues, such as congenital heart murmurs, hernias, or congenital deformities. We may also make nutrition recommendations at this time.

Vaccinations are a vital part of a young pet’s medical care. During the first visit, we will develop a vaccination schedule tailored to your pet’s particular needs, taking into account size, breed, overall health, and environment. A small dog that spends most of his time indoors, for example, faces different risks than a young hunting dog that spends considerable time in the woods with her owner. Our vaccination schedules follow all AAHA guidelines.

Puppies and kittens need more frequent vaccinations than adult dogs and cats, so you should expect to bring your pet in a little more often during your first few months together. Most important, we will talk to you about your pet, and we encourage you to ask us any questions you have.
